Official petition for the Belfast City Marathon not to be held on a Sunday

We, the undersigned object to the Belfast City Marathon being held on a Sunday from 2011.

We believe that this will cause disruption to churches along the route, or those close to the route, due to road closures. We also believe that some people may feel uncomfortable running on a Sunday as it is a day of rest. People may be forced to choose between their beliefs and raising money for charities/ mission trips etc.

A move to a Sunday will also affect Non-Christians working in shops as they may have to work on May Day and therefore lose yet another family holiday.
